MOOD DISORDERS

Mood disorders are characterized by disturbances in a person's emotional state, encompassing both depressive and bipolar disorders.

Depressive Disorders:

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest.

  • Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia): Chronic depressive mood lasting for at least two years.

  • Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD): Severe mood swings related to the menstrual cycle.

Bipolar and Related Disorders:

  • Bipolar I Disorder: At least one manic episode, possibly accompanied by depressive episodes.

  • Bipolar II Disorder: At least one hypomanic episode and one major depressive episode.
